Step 1
Verify communication is established between the diagnostic scanner (X431, Autel or any equivalent diagnostic tool) and the EPB control module.

Step 2
Retrieve diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and confirm the fault corresponds to emergency release / emergency unlock malfunction. The displayed text varies by scanner model and vehicle model, yet the fault meaning stays consistent.

Step 3
Erase all stored DTCs, then re-read fault codes to confirm all faults associated with emergency unlock have been cleared.

Step 4
Confirm the fault symptom persists: Pull the parking brake switch; the actuator motor runs but cannot fully tension the parking brake. Relevant DTCs will reappear after 3 to 4 operation attempts.

Step 5
Operate the diagnostic scanner to switch the EPB module into Service Mode / Installation Mode. The menu text differs across scanners and vehicle models, but this function fully extends the parking brake cables to their maximum stroke position.

Step 6
Check that the cable terminals are correctly installed inside the brake rotor assembly and fastened securely.

⚠ Critical Step 7
Adjust the star adjuster wheel until the brake rotor cannot be rotated by hand whatsoever.

⚠ Critical Step 8
Back off the star adjuster wheel one tooth at a time. Stop adjustment when the rotor barely rotates (partial braking force exists while the parking brake is released), then test parking brake actuation. If the fault no longer occurs, proceed to Step 9. If the malfunction recurs, the brake shoes are excessively worn and must be replaced.

Step 9
Release the parking brake and keep adjusting the star adjuster wheel to find the balance point. Insufficient adjustment will create constant drag on the brake rotor, while over-adjustment will bring back the aforementioned fault. Before further adjusting the star adjuster wheel, you must verify that the cable terminal is securely fixed inside the brake rotor assembly, as cable detachment may occur when this fault takes place.

Step 10
The repair is finished if the parking brake works properly and the brake rotor spins freely without drag. If such balanced adjustment cannot be achieved, the brake shoes are worn beyond the limit and replacement is required.

调节星型调节轮,直至双手完全无法转动刹车盘。

反向调节星型调节轮,建议逐齿调节,在刹车盘勉强可旋转时(此时手刹未拉紧但有制动力)进行测试,尝试拉紧手刹。若故障消失,转向步骤 9。若故障现象再次出现,则说明刹车片太薄,需要更换。

步骤 9
松开手刹,继续调节星型调节轮来找到平衡点,若调节不足,刹车盘会始终受到制动力,若调节过度,前述故障将再次出现,必须检查确认拉线末端在刹车盘内牢固固定才可以继续调试星型调节轮,故障发生时有概率导致脱扣。

步骤 10
若手刹正常工作且刹车盘可以自由转动,维修完成。如果无法满足,说明刹车片太薄,需要更换。
